Common Short Code (CSC) Provisioning & Management
The place to start with your mobile program is with a short code. A short code is liened to a website domain and is often considered your "mobile URL" and can be branded just like a website URL. A short code is a 5-6 digit code that can be a number or stand for your service. For example, Google uses (GOOGLE which is 466453). Many companies deploy several short codes to support a variety of services. You can choose from a Random (selected randomly from a pool of codes) or Vanity (hand selected by the client).
The process to register and activate a short code with carriers is complex and time consuming. For that reason, QWASI provides these services to its clients and can lease, provision and activate short codes with carriers throughout North America (United States and Canada) and throughout Europe. Here's how it works:
Short Code Provisioning Timeline
| Phase | Week 1 & 2 | Week 3 & 4 | Week 5 & 6 | Week 7 & 8 | Week 9+ |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Identify Application and Program Create Website Support Page Select type of CSC: Random or Vanity Register the short code with the CSCA. |
Program creation for each carrier. Submit the campaign and program to the Carriers |
Review and approval by carriers Modify program with carrier feedback. Resubmit if necessary. |
Provision with carriers. Testing begins once the CSC is provisioned with each carrier. | Activation of short code for testing Certification by carriers |
|
| A detailed program is created. Any delays on this or the website support pages will further extend this phase | Vanity short codes are able to be submitted upon payment to the carriers. Delays in payment will also delay carrier submissions. | Immediate sign offs may be required if changes are requested by carriers. | Make additional modifications if requested by carriers. | This is the final phase of the process. If all gets accepted and provisioned, the code will go live across the carriers as they are certified. |
There has never been a more important time to engage customers via the mobile communication channel. There are many moving parts including Carriers, Aggregators, Content and Media Companies and Application Providers.
